2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC: New-generation of performance

Mercedes-AMG has introduced its new GLC models in the luxury compact SUV market, notably including the AMG GLC 43 and the first-ever AMG performance hybrid SUV, the AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE. Following the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, the two new AMG versions aim to take performance to a brand-new level, delivering exceptional refinement, luxury, and an upscale interior with new technology features paired with significant powertrain enhancements that make the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC a potent performance vehicle with plenty of cargo space.

The new GLC models incorporate the AMG M139l 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is turbocharged with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger. By integrating an electric motor directly on the turbocharger shaft, this design aims to provide a broad response across the entire rpm range. This function could potentially lead to higher torque at lower rpms, which in theory, could enhance both agility and acceleration.

F1 Technology

The AMG GLC 43 and GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE differ in their respective power outputs. The AMG GLC 43 model has an output of 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, with an additional 13 hp provided by the belt-driven starter generator (RSG). In contrast, the GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE offers a power output of 469 hp and 402 lb-ft of torque. This model also incorporates a permanently excited synchronous electric motor and a high-performance battery, resulting in a system output of 671 hp and a maximum system torque of 752 lb-ft. The engine power of both models is transmitted through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9G transmission. This technology replaces the torque converter with a wet start-off clutch, promising rapid response to accelerator pedal input.

Advanced Dynamics 

Both the GLC 43 and GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE come equipped with the AMG RIDE CONTROL steel spring suspension, along with an Adaptive Damping System. The combination is designed to provide a balance between sporty driving dynamics and comfort during long journeys. The system continually adjusts the damping at each wheel as per the current driving demands, aiming to improve ride quality, comfort, and driving safety.

The models feature the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs, which offer varying vehicle characteristics from comfortable to dynamic. This system is integrated with the AMG DYNAMICS driving dynamics control system, which further enhances the ESP® stabilizing functions and steering agility. The ESP® system offers three stages of adjustment: "On," "Sport," and "Off," which can be selected based on driving conditions and driver preferences.

The AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization system is a standard feature in the GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE. This system is designed to compensate for body movements electromechanically, differing from traditional rigid anti-roll bars. The system aims to reduce rolling movements during cornering and provides the potential for more precise tuning of steering and load cycle behavior.

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC models are designed with the intention of providing a balance between dynamic and precise driving experience. The models come with the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs, offering different driving experiences. The addition of the AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with Adaptive Damping System and the active roll stabilization system are technological advancements included in these models. The AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE, with its standard AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization, differentiates itself within its segment.
